THE POWER OF MEANINGFUL PARENT-CHILD CONVERSATIONS
Given the highly tech-driven world that we live in, isn’t meaningful conversations more of a dying art? Have a look around you, and you will see people glued to their phones or iPad, typing, browsing, and listening to music, totally unaware of the world around them. We, the Lotus Valley International School, have seen many parents complaining about the same problem with their children. With the kids being increasingly distracted by technology, family conversations have become a rare activity in households. However, we cannot leave the situation at that. After all, continued meaningful conversations with parents and other family members hold a special significance for the proper growth of children. A study by professor Ann P. Kaiser, Vanderbilt University, and Megan Y. Roberts, Northwestern University in 2011, suggested that the language learning skills of children are profoundly impacted by the amount and quality of interaction they have with their parents.
